A programme for Nigerian startups solving real energy problems, equipping founders with investor exposure and the guidance to scale commercially, culminating in a Demo Day where they pitch directly to investors and industry leaders.
How the challange works
Stage 1: Call for Submissions
28 July – 28 August 2026
Submit a one page concept note (max 500 words) under one of the four Challenge Categories. No pitch deck required at this stage.
Stage 2: Screening & Shortlisting
29 August – 30 September 2026
Applications are scored against the judging criteria. The ten highest scoring startups (Top 10) are announced and matched with an industry mentor for one on one guidance on their business model, pitch, and investment narrative. The Top 5 finalists are then confirmed.
Stage 3: Final Pitch, Demo Day
Prep: 1 – 15 October 2026 | Live: 27 – 29 October 2026
The Top 5 are announced with at least two weeks notice and receive virtual pitch coaching and investor readiness sessions. Finalists attend the Nigeria Energy Leadership Summit, where each gets a dedicated slot to pitch live, followed by Q&A with the judging panel. Winners are announced on stage the same day.

Solutions expanding access to affordable, reliable energy through solar, mini-grids, energy storage, and clean cooking technologies.
Digital platforms, AI, IoT, data analytics, and other technology solutions improving energy operations, efficiency, and commercial performance.
Innovations enabling productive use of energy across agriculture, manufacturing, and transport, including electric mobility, EV charging, and battery technologies.
Eligibility criteria
Core Eligibility (Mandatory)
- Nigerian-owned and Nigerian-registered company.
- Operating as a for-profit business.
- Product is live or in active pilot — concept-only ideas are not eligible.
- Solution aligns with one of the four Challenge Categories.
Team Requirements
- At least two founders or leaders actively running the business.
- Startups with at least one woman in a founding or leadership position are strongly encouraged to apply.
Judging Criteria
- Problem–Solution Fit — How significant is the problem, and how effectively does the solution address it?
- Market Readiness — Evidence of customer demand, traction, commercial viability, and scalability.
- Team Capability — The team's ability to execute, grow, and deliver long-term impact.
- Economic & National Impact — Potential to create jobs, strengthen local capacity, reduce imports, save foreign exchange, and contribute to Nigeria's energy transition.
